Resilience is "the ability to withstand and rebound from disruptive life challenges" (Walsh, 2003, p. 1). These challenges can present in a variety of life's issues. In research with adult survivors of child abuse, Dr. Gegenheimer discovered the inner-strengths used by those individuals who have successfully reinvented themselves. The ability to move beyond negative events and bounce forward to a higher level of functioning is something every person should experience. Walsh, F. (2003).
